Playing with CSS

Sat Nov 18, 2017, 11:45 PM

Just playing with modding some CSS to make a journal skin.
The background obviously doesn't work with all text colours.

In any case, it doesn't look all that difficult to do.

Planning the next art pieces

Journal Entry: Wed Jul 5, 2017, 10:32 PM
Pondering some ideas for :iconkaelacroftart: 's art contest. She's got some really nice character designs that would be fun to attempt. Plus, Star Wars, so there we go. Feel free to join!

Contest 2017 - [OVER!]The contest is officially OVER.
I was asleep for the deadline but I did check the date and time of all last minute entries. A huge thank you to everyone who entered, it's going to be a close race here! I'm probably gonna sit down this week with my boyfriend and he'll help pick my brain and help me pick the winners. The judgment will be post Friday! So late I know... but well, work and life :) Again thanks everyone who entered!
___________________________________________________________________________________
It's been three years since I've had an art contest. I feel the need to host one now!
If you don't want to participate at least pass it on :D
:bulletyellow: What you'll be Creating :bulletyellow:
You'll be tasked with drawing, painting, writing, cosplaying, whatever-ing my Star Wars Original Characters. As always, I encourage you to have fun! If you wanna draw my OC with your OC having a lightsaber battle fantastic! Just don't gender bend my characters. N

I'm also wanting to get another :iconmogucosplay: piece done. I have a couple planned, one isn't even a costume piece, but I may need to hammer out a few character shots for my Star Wars game first.

Basically, there are so many damn NPCs on the ship now, the players really should have some visuals for the few that are sticking around long-term. Mostly the gunners, the marine, and the snubfighter pilot. Maybe some of the ISN lab guys, 'cause they're creepy in a dreadful X-Files/X-Com sellout scientist sort of way.

Mostly though, I've stayed up too late on a work night again. :/ Foo. Art will have to wait until tomorrow.

Art on a time limit (with modifiers)

Mon Apr 10, 2017, 8:26 PM
So I just now figured out how I'm going to do the Melina piece I'm working on for :iconmogucosplay:

Which is great! I was just sort of flailing around with notebook sketches before this point. Downside, only half of it is even drawn out and scanned in, and barely at that. (Her face and hips need revision with the perspective I chose). Not really a problem, but I'm trying to get this done by say, Wednesday night.. Thursday at the latest, for an event on Saturday.

Considering that I'm moving, won't know if I'm switching jobs until tomorrow, and could start that job as early as Wednesday... well, it's a bit of a crazy week.

Right then. Put on the kettle, I'm going to need more tea for this.

New Tablet

Wed Dec 23, 2015, 5:13 PM
After years of working with a secondhand Intuos II, I finally had the cash to buy a brand new Wacom Cintiq 13HD. :D However, when setting it up, I noticed that the screen area was tiny and a little blurry despite being set to max resolution. A lot of poking later, I found that Windows 10 had decided that I needed a 150% zoom in the Display Settings. Resetting that to 100% fixed the issue completely.

So, for those Google searches out there: Blurry Wacom Cintiq 13HD Windows 10 Fix Display Settings "Change the size of text, apps, and other items" to 100%

...And now to go colour something.

  • Listening to: Star Wars (all of it, on random)

  • Watching: Star Wars VII

More updates coming

Wed Nov 4, 2015, 8:35 PM
New job.
Little free time.
A few pieces in need of scanning.
I may color one of them, but no promises.

That's about it, really.

  • Listening to: Enya
  • Reading: One of the Honor Harrington books
  • Watching: Voyager
  • Playing: Vermintide
  • Eating: Those squishy fruit snack things

Deviantartist Questionnaire

Fri Aug 7, 2015, 10:40 PM
  1. How long have you been on DeviantArt? 8 years now, but only 3 as a publishing artist. Most of that was lurking and commenting on other people's art.

  2. What does your username mean? Xechon was the Warlord Big Bad of an unpublished episode of Xena that I wrote a very long time ago. It was a good name, so I've been using it ever since.

  3. Describe yourself in three words.

  4. Are you left or right handed? Left Hander ftw.

  5. What was your first deviation? Besides my old DeviantID? A Legend of Korra fan art for the then upcoming series.

  6. What is your favourite type of art to create? Color digital probably, but they take forever to complete.

  7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be? Truly spectacular pencil and inks comic style, something like Jan Duursema, Travis Moore, or Brian Ching.

  8. What was your first favourite? The first fave I tagged was First Date by Travis Moore. The first fave I ever received was for the aforementioned Korra piece.

  9. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most? Colorful action poses of strong females or sci-fi characters.

  10. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist? How can you pick just one? Look at my Favourites list to see at least 1 piece by every artist on my watch list.

  11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be? I've met quite a few, actually. Never pass up a chance to wander slowly though Artist's Alley at a convention.

  12. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life? Inspiration is easily found here.

  13. What are your preferred tools to create art? Engineer's pencil, Japanese ink pens, Wacom Tablets

  14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art? Boring meetings? Seriously though, I do most of my work on my game computer with an old tablet.

  15. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory? The first time I got faved? "They like me, they really like me!" :D

Momentum

Fri Mar 13, 2015, 1:15 PM
Momentum, once lost, is a hard thing to recover. I stalled out a bit on an art piece and let a whole mountain of new potential work pile up behind it. Once you bog down... Well, that, and I've been playing a lot of Final Fantasy XIV lately ;) (My review of the game)

In any event, after a long abandonment, "Ambush!" is done. Done enough. Time to move on to other things and get more practice in. I've got Gewn, Gabri, and Ashley in the queue next.

3000 pageviews

Thu Aug 28, 2014, 12:18 AM
3000 pageviews! Wow, I never thought I'd break 50. Thank you!! :D Working on the coloured version of the Heintz and Alyssa Ambush piece, this thing is going to take forever. An Imperial Forever, mind you, not one of those smaller Metric Forevers.

Building up steam

Tue Jul 29, 2014, 11:54 PM
Working on an Alyssa piece for the Warhammer Fantasy game. Just a headshot, but I need to get back in practice. Lines and base colors are down, will begin the big paint job tomorrow on it and see how much of the technique I remember. Next up should be a piece Holland asked me to do, but I may need a larger warmup before that. I've been out of practice for way too long this time. Oh well, move is done (more or less) so there should be more time for this sort of thing. Captain out.

Moving Delay

Mon Jun 23, 2014, 11:13 PM
Hello everyone,
I'm in the process of moving to another town, one that is actually close to the mountains, so anything more complicated than a quick doodle during a boring meeting is on temporary hiatus. I should be ramping up again next week though, just as soon as we get internet at the new place. haha

Game Play Pro Tip: The secret to moving after you're 40 is Vicodin and Heating Pads. ;)

Planned projects

Thu Apr 10, 2014, 5:27 PM
Thinking about starting a Suki (Avatar: The Last Airbender) in the Artgerm-style, featuring my friend Kim as Suki. Also have about 3.6 million anime-ish style game comics/pose-pieces rattling around in my head to do. Never enough time... but that's sort of what's in the upcoming docket.

Shifting gears

Sat Jan 11, 2014, 1:13 AM
So I've put a number of pieces on hold while I mulled over the decision to split my art styles into two paths. One: Comic, anime and game characters that are fun and easy and look a lot like Avatar:TLA. Two: More naturally shaded and human-looking pieces that can still be fun game characters but will look a lot more realistic than basic cell-shading. Both paths need a lot of work, but it may be better to delineate them now before continuing to muddle back and forth in a bad merging of styles. So, I suppose, expect to see a lot more test pieces popping up while I poke at both of these. Good luck, good hunting, and May The Force Be With You.

New works in progress

Sun Nov 24, 2013, 2:58 PM
Have a new Gamer Cache comic and a couple more character art pieces for the Warhammer and Shadowrun games in the queue. Alyssa, Seamus and Agnes this time around. Been pondering a character height lineup for the WH game, but at the moment that is a very ambitious project. On the radar though. Good luck, keep drawing. Captain out.

Going all official

Wed Nov 13, 2013, 3:11 PM
So I went ahead and bought a DA Premium Account. Never thought that I'd be a good enough artist to ever really consider doing that. Not that 'm a good artist, haha, oh wow, no. But DA made such a good offer that I couldn't refuse ;) So, here we are, on the edge of a new direction. Sort of exciting! Not that I have any idea where this will go at this point--could be a huge flop, could be the start of something amazing. We'll look back on this with 20/20 Hindsight and laugh either way. Grab your pencils and tune your scanners, adventure awaits! Or, at the very least, a cleaner gallery...
